ABOUT DURFEE NJROTC

The Navy Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps (NJROTC) is a military based program offered at B.M.C Durfee High School and also at many other schools. NJROTC is a program that teaches the young community discipline, citizenship, honor, courage, and commitment. Seeing as though the program strives to teach the aforementioned aspects, leadership and initiative is vital to a cadet's success in the program. In NJROTC, we plan to release young leaders out into the community and beyond.

The material covered in classes may range from Drill (marching in a military manner) to the rich history of the United States Navy, but it seems the real fun usually happens during Drill Season. Drill Season is a period of time where cadets from different schools come together and compete in the following categories: Academics, Armed Drill (rifles), Color Guard, Individual Drill Routine (IDR), Inspection, NS1 Drill, Physical Training (PT), and Unarmed Drill. During the events of Drill Season, cadets show off their discipline (or lack there of) either individually or in a squad or platoon by performing a drill routine, commanded by one of their own. The individual/squad/platoon is then judged by numerous judges on their drill performances and then is given a score.

The skills acquired to become successful in NJROTC (or any JROTC program) will follow the cadet far into his/her future, essentially shaping the cadet into an honorable citizen. Durfee's NJROTC program is the perfect program for those who strive to be the best - morally, mentally, and physically.
